Test-Only vs Test+Repair Smog Stations
Test-only stations just inspect. Test+repair stations inspect AND fix problems if your vehicle fails. Which should you choose? Depends on your vehicle age + history.
When to use which
Test-Only Stations
Best for:
- Modern vehicles 2010+ with no check engine light
- Vehicles you've kept maintained
- Quick in-and-out inspection only
- You don't want to be upsold on repairs
Drawback: If you fail, you have to take your car elsewhere for repair, then come back. Two trips.
Test+Repair Stations
Best for:
- Older vehicles or recent code clears
- Out-of-state vehicles you're newly registering
- Diesel pickups (DPF/DEF concerns)
- You want diagnose + fix in one visit if needed
Drawback: Slightly more expensive shop overhead — pricing is comparable, but you have to trust them.
Our network has both. If you're not sure, start with test+repair — worst case you pay the same for inspection, best case you save a trip if you fail.
