My car is suddenly loud — do I need a muffler?
Probably. Common causes: rusted-through muffler, broken weld, fallen heat shield, hole in exhaust pipe. Bring it in for a free diagnostic.
How much does muffler replacement cost?
Standard stock muffler: $150-400 installed. Performance muffler: $300-800. Custom dual exhaust: $500-1500.
Can you fix a broken muffler instead of replacing it?
Sometimes. Small leaks can be welded. But if the muffler is rusted through, replacement is more reliable than patching.
Do I need a special muffler in California?
California doesn't restrict muffler types like cats — but excessive noise (over 95 dB) is illegal. We install legal mufflers only.
Will a louder muffler fail smog?
No — California smog inspection doesn't test muffler noise. Vehicle code 27150 is enforced by police, not smog stations.
