Every location below is BAR-licensed and takes fleet vehicles as walk-ins. Spread a fleet across whichever shops are closest to where your vehicles actually run — the paperwork is filed electronically with the DMV either way.
The 14,000-lb GVWR rule
Weight matters for fleet smog in California, and the line is 14,000 lb GVWR (the rating on the door-jamb sticker — not what the vehicle currently weighs). Here is the rule stated plainly:
| Vehicle | Smog check? |
|---|---|
| Gasoline, hybrid, or flex-fuel — 1976 or newer, up to 14,000 lb GVWR | Required — standard smog check |
| Gasoline or flex-fuel — over 14,000 lb GVWR | Still required — routed to a tailpipe-based test, confirmed at the station |
| Diesel — 1998 or newer, up to 14,000 lb GVWR | Required — OBD-based smog check |
| Diesel — over 14,000 lb GVWR | Exempt from the Smog Check Program — confirmed at the station |
| Gasoline — 1975 or older · Diesel — 1997 or older | Exempt |
| Electric vehicles · motorcycles | Exempt |
Heavy diesel is exempt; heavy gasoline still tests. Edge cases (dedicated propane/natural gas, missing OBD, out-of-state paperwork) are confirmed at the station.
Does this vehicle need a smog check?
Quick check for one vehicle — model year, fuel, and weight band.
This mirrors the standard routing rules; the station confirms every exemption against the vehicle's actual records at the counter.
Registration-month planner
Fleet registrations renew all over the calendar. Tap the months your vehicles renew in, and get a suggested visit window for each — the few months leading up to the renewal month, so nothing bunches up against a deadline.
Suggested windows are soft ranges (month and year only), not promised dates. Confirm each vehicle's exact due date on its DMV renewal notice.

Fleet smog, in one answer
Yes — we test commercial fleet vehicles. Vehicles up to 14,000 lb GVWR follow the standard California smog rules; over 14,000 lb, diesel vehicles are exempt from the Smog Check Program while gasoline vehicles still need a test. You can bring several vehicles in the same day — first come, first served — and you can ask us about a consolidated monthly statement and reserved queue mornings for your fleet. Per BAR commercial vehicle smog rules.
